Our Exclusive Interview with Mr. Jean-Jacques Barrett

How did you get started in the fitness industry?
It all started one and half year ago on a chilling Saturday morning at La Bat Cave.  At the end of a Weightlifting Workshop, leaded by Montreal’s Best Yannik Morin, we started to discuss about the upcoming Fame East 2007 Regional Show that was presented in Laval, Quebec.

Yannik was describing the way he was preparing his athletes.  To be honest, since the age of 4, I was dreaming of being on a bodybuilding stage.  The more he was talking about it, the more I wanted to join his team of athletes.  He noticed my rising interest and finally asked me:

“JJ would you like to be part of it"

It would be good for you and your professional career.  Besides you would realize your childhood dream!”

He got me there; I was caught off guard!!!

But I wanted to be sure that I was in the right position to start the 10 weeks “From Hell” Diet!  Soon as I know that I was ready, I jumped into it…and never regretted it ever since!

First time ever I was really proud of myself!
You see, I realize that I enjoy being in extreme position; it gives me that feeling that I have to surpass myself.  I feel extremely confident knowing that nothing impossible.

I am also a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the past 7 years and it has been a fulfilling ride!

What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment?
Friday June 13th (Isn’t it ironic); I won the WNSO 2008 Fame World Amateur Muscle Model Showdown becoming a Fame Natural Pro Muscle Model.

Is fitness modeling/ competition your full-time job?
No, but competing gave me the chance to learn a lot about body transformation witch turns out to help me tremendously with my own personal training clients!

What are your long-term goals?
My main goal was to become a Pro Athlete, witch I did after 2 years of competition winning at the WNSO Fame World Championship. My next goal is to be on fitness magazines hard covers.

I’m working hard for it! I want to focus more on Muscle Modeling and preparing athletes for competitions!

My next competition is schedule in two years as I want to become the next World Pro Muscle Model Champion…Why not!!!

What supplements do you use?
Coco Oil
Fish Oil

How do you motivate yourself to stay in shape?
I believe that I’m extreme of nature.

Being in position that I’m push to my limit gives me that feeling that I can accomplish anything.
As a kid sports made me understood that I could become better everyday from hard work. I realized that no one would offer me something for free and that I was the only one responsible for my personal failure; not others.

Also as a B-Boy Dancer, I understand that qualities such as Strength, Power and Coordination are necessary in order to perform at the highest level.

What tips would you give to someone who wanted to get into the fitness modeling (or fitness competition).

When you are getting ready for a competition, have fun prepare for it and being part of it.  This is the best way to let your personality and your stage presence come
Be original, creative, do not be shy to let yourself go; do it for yourself, for personal achievement.
You are in the 1 to 2% percent that makes it on stage…you have to proud of it!
